Eye witnesses are not reliable
According to Loftus the study of eyewitness memory (retrieval) is important because so many people rely and believe that eyewitness memory is accurate. But little does everyone know that, eyewitness memory isn’t so reliable at all. Loftus says “Although current theories of memory are derived largely from experiments including lists of words or sentences, many memories in occurring everyday life involve complex, largely visual, and often fast moving events. Of course, we are rarely required to provide precise recall of such experiences – though as we age, we often volunteer them – but on occasion such recall is demanded, as when we have witnessed a crime or an accident.” He’s trying to tell the world that we should understand more about eyewitness memory because so many believe it to be true when most of the time people are wrong. This should be a major concern to the police, law, court system. This concept can used for others and is important because this helps people gain memory back. As teens a good part about life is remembering all the past events you did as a kid with your best friends. People say a picture is worth a thousand words because remembering the best moments are key. They help you realize how amazing and fun your life can be.
